Becky Keller and Sam Granger’s romance has cooled. He is busy teaching at the vet school, and she’s busy with her restaurant and antique shop. What Sam hasn’t told her is his PTSD, which manifests mostly with nightmares, makes him believe he’s damaged goods. But that is about to change when he meets Vvolt, a Belgian Malinois retired military working dog.

When a tornado hits Brenham, there is damage in the downtown area as well as in nearby Round Top where Becky’s restaurant is situated. Sam offers to help her clean up and introduce her to Vvolt–and for a while it’s like the old days, only with a MWD supervising.
