Last Soap Opera Before Sunrise

There’s nothing like a funeral to set the old adrenaline on edge, especially when questions about the afterlife arise.

Vance Chelan, a jaundiced media pro, gets a jolt for the ages when he attends the memorial service for his former number-one advertising client. Confronted for the first time with his own immortality, Vance realizes he’s missed the point of life altogether. Knowing that he will give an account of himself once he departs Planet Earth, Vance mounts a misguided campaign bordering on the bizarre to patch things up between the Almighty and him. But the road to the Pearly Gates is strewn with devilish potholes, and Vance manages to find each one-with a flat or two along the way: nearly drowning in a botched baptismal stunt; being branded a raving hypocrite by the loopy star of a carpet commercial; encountering the worst case of halitosis in the of history of Creation; and being excoriated by a stripper for a perceived chink in his spiritual breastplate. It all comes to a head during a convention in Las Vegas when a one-night stand with a hard-charging anchorwoman forces a crisis of faith. Has he really changed? Or is it all just an act? The answer, to be sure, has eternal consequences.
