I Hate School

When we take our children to the shoe store and the shoes don’t fit, we don’t change their feet. We keep shopping until we find shoes that fit the feet. Education offers very few styles of “shoes.” When a child’s foot won’t fit the shoe the school offers, the school often insists that the foot be changed. But what happens when you force children’s feet into uncomfortable and ill-fitting shoes and make them walk around in them? As soon as they possibly can, they take the shoes off, vowing never to put them on again. This book offers practical strategies for finding an education that fits the child instead of insisting that this precious and uniquely designed child must always adjust to the education provided. It offers suggestions on how to find out in what physical environment and how your child learns best. This doesn’t mean that every child needs an individually tailored education. Very few people can afford to have every pair of shoes specifically made for them. But, if we recognize and appreciate the natural individual learning styles of our children, we can broaden the variety of shoes in every educational closet. This easy-to-understand book encourages parents to choose the right school for their child and then to navigate the often complex paths of that school to obtain the best possible education for their child.
