God With Skin On

Jesus responds to the question about the greatest commandment with two Old Testament commandments.The first, known to Jews as the “Shema,” says that we should love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength. The second, to love our neighbor as ourselves. They are parallel commands and, in Jesus’ eyes. Matthew 25–that “when you have done it to the least of these you have done it to me,” makes the same point: loving God and loving each other are the same thing.

In a culture where relationships are often divisive and exploitative, and where the call to love enemies seems impractical, this book offers the reminder we are interacting with God as we engage every relationship.

This book examines relationships of intimacy, authority, rivalry, and otherness-to show how learning to love within those relationships affects our relationship with God.
