Matt Andrews looks out at a raging blizzard and travels back in mind and spirit to his youth.

The year is 1946. He walks through another blizzard, looking forward to home after years in the army. He has dreams of going to college and finding a better life.

But there are challenges. A loving community calling him back. An older father who wants him to take over the farm. A young teacher he loves, but he’s not ready for marriage. The polio epidemic threatens his family. Adjustments to civilian life and college. Tragedies in the family and in his new college life. Uncertainty about the directions to take.

The future is frightening and unfamiliar. How does God fit into the unfamiliar face of the future?
