Lenten season gives us an opportunity to reflect and prepare our faith for Easter. In order to achieve this, there are several popular practices. Father Sosa’s new book, La Cuaresma: Oraciones, ayuno y ofrendas, walks us through these practices – prayer, fasting and almsgiving – in a narrative way from the point of view of Manuel and his search for God during a visit to his parish during Ash Wednesday. Fr. Sosa will describe the tradition and history of the Ashes, give an insight of personal prayer and communal prayer during Lent, explain fasting and the meaning of that sacrifice, distinguish between almsgiving and stewardship, and define and explain the Triduum.

En el ao liturgico, la temporada de Cuaresma nos ofrece una buena oportunidad de prepararnos para la fiesta de la Pascua y la celebracion de la Resurreccion del Seor. Segun la tradicion catolica, cumplimos con esta meta principalmente por las practicas del ayuno, la oracion, y las obras de caridad. Estas tres practicas nos ayudan ponernos en solidaridad con el Seor y el gran sacrificio que el hizo para nosotros por su muerte en la cruz.

Con un estilo de narracion novelestico, examinaremos las ofrendas, sacrificios, y practicas cuaresmales en la Iglesia catolica desde el punto de vista de Manuel y su busqueda de Dios durante su visita a la Iglesia el Miercoles de Ceniza.
