A compelling book that talks about the difficulties of living as a mature adult in today’s world after growing up in a chaotic and violent Christian home, with a father who preached the gospel but provoked his children to anger and ruled his house with fear and trembling. The author gives a snapshot of some of the most agonizing moments she experienced in her adult life that were a direct result of the conditioning, trauma, and abuse she suffered as a child. She talks frankly about suicide and how the pain of her past haunted her present and gave her no hope for her future. She doesn’t leave us in the valley of her life, however, but shows how the hand of God, although at times invisible to her, was always there, working on her behalf to bring her from a life of agony to a life of praise.
